LCMSAC First Meeting

Today 3 students from Leeds College of Music (LCM) met with Iain Dalton from Leeds Socialist Students for the first meeting of the new anti-cuts group Leeds College of Music Against Cuts. The group discussed the fact that we are facing the abolition of our entire teaching budget, which UCU says means that £2,446,125 is at risk, which will mean that LCM will have to put their tuition fees up to £7000 per year in order to make up the funding shortfall. We have decided to raise awareness of this fact using a mixture of emails, petitions and word of mouth. We are also going to contact the colleges senior management and course leaders to try and gain support for any demonstrations that we might want to go to, and for nobody to be punished for missing college to go to demonstrations. We are also going to try and get the support of the students union to try and get cheap, or even better, free transport to national demonstrations outside of Leeds.

We are also planning on making flyers and leaflets in order to increase the visibility and size of our group, if you are a student at LCM then please come along to one of our meetings, we will be meeting every Friday at 1pm in The Wardrobe, the bar/restraunt just over the road from the college, which is by West Yorkshire Playhouse.  For any further details then contact me (Jonny Mawson) either on Facebook, mobile phone (07789063057) or email (jonny . mawson (at) 3sixty systems . com) remove the spaces and change the (at) for an @ symbol.
